Luke Skywalker is a central character in the original Star Wars trilogy, first appearing in the film Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), also known as SpaceWars. Born to Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala, Luke was raised on the desert planet Tatooine, unaware of his powerful Force heritage.
Initially a moisture farmboy, Luke's life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, and subsequently meets Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan reveals Luke's father was a Jedi Knight and begins to train him in the ways of the Force.
Luke joins the Rebel Alliance in their fight against the evil Galactic Empire. Over the course of the trilogy, he hones his Jedi skills, confronts Darth Vader (his father), and ultimately plays a crucial role in the Empire's defeat. His journey is defined by his struggle with the light and dark sides of the Force, and his eventual triumph as a Jedi Master.
